find the log

Where yapyap studio writes down what it did, on each OS, and what to check before you send it.

yapyap studio writes what it does to one file on your computer. When something breaks, that file usually says why. Attach it when you report a problem.

This is not the logs/ folder inside your vault. That folder holds your recordings' titles, marks and speakers (see the file map). Leave it alone.

open it from the app

Settings → Help & feedback → The log → Reveal the log opens your file manager with the log selected.

If yapyap cannot start, the failure screen has an open the log button that does the same.

where it is on disk

The file is called yapyap studio.log:

OSfolder
macOS~/Library/Logs/com.xiduzo.yapyap/
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\com.xiduzo.yapyap\logs\
Linux~/.local/share/com.xiduzo.yapyap/logs/

On macOS, press ⌘⇧G in Finder and paste the folder path. On Windows, paste the path into the Explorer address bar.

Developers can also ask the local API with GET /logs. It returns the full path of the current file.

what is in it

  • What the app and its interface did, in the order they did it.
  • Warnings and errors, including the watchdog lines that appear when a processing step stops answering.
  • File paths and recording titles.

The file grows to 5 MB. Then yapyap starts a new one and keeps one older file beside it. If the folder holds two .log files, the newer one is the current log.

The log never leaves your computer unless you send it yourself. It can name your recordings and your files, so read it before you attach it anywhere.
