phone won't pair

The phone cannot find the desktop, or pairing does not complete.

Symptom: the phone's pairing screen keeps saying "no desktop found — tap to scan again", or the pair attempt never completes.

Pairing needs both apps open, awake, and on the same network. The phone finds the desktop by broadcasting on your wifi — anything that blocks that broadcast blocks pairing.

work down this list

  1. Same wifi, really? A phone on 5 GHz and a desktop on a guest network, or on ethernet in another VLAN, cannot see each other. Put both on the same network name.
  2. Is yapyap studio running? The desktop only answers while the app runs. Open it, then tap scan again on the phone.
  3. iPhone: Local Network permission. iOS asks once whether yapyap go may find devices on your network. If it was denied, the scan finds nothing, forever, silently. Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → allow yapyap. The desktop settings point at this too: "can't find this desktop from your phone? yapyap may need permission to find devices on your network."
  4. Desktop firewall. The desktop must accept local connections. macOS: System Settings → Network → Firewall — allow yapyap. Windows: allow yapyap on private networks when the firewall asks.
  5. The Allow dialog timed out. When you tap pair, the desktop shows "Pair with {phone}?" for 30 seconds. If nobody clicks Allow in time, the attempt dies quietly. Tap pair again with the desktop screen in view.
  6. Guest / hotel / office wifi. Many managed networks block devices from seeing each other ("client isolation"). Nothing yapyap can do — use a personal hotspot or your home network.

paired, but recordings do not arrive

Pairing and reachability are different states. The home badge on the phone tells you which one you are in: "desktop offline — N recordings waiting" means the bond is fine and the desktop is simply not reachable right now. Recordings queue and sync when it returns. See pairing & sync.

start over

On the desktop: Settings → phone → revoke. On the phone: Settings → Desktop → remove. Then pair again from the phone.
