move your vault

Put your recordings in a folder you actually look at.

The vault is the folder that holds every recording — your data, as plain files. yapyap starts it in its own app-data folder, which works, but you never look there. A synced folder or an external drive is often a better home.

move it

  1. Open Settings → your vault.
  2. Under location, click Change….
  3. Pick the new folder.
  4. Read the confirmation and click Move it here.

The dialog tells you what will happen before anything moves: "Everything you have now moves with it. Nothing is deleted." If the new folder is already a yapyap vault, it says how many recordings are in it — they are added to your library rather than replacing it.

The move finishes with the toast "Your vault moved". No restart, and the app keeps working during the move.

folders yapyap refuses

Moving your vault merges everything yapyap has into the folder you pick, and leaves a marker file there saying it is a vault. For that reason yapyap refuses to become your home folder, Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Music, Pictures, or the root of a drive — folders whose contents somebody else organised. A folder inside any of those is fine.

what about the old folder?

Empty after the move. On the same disk the folder is renamed in place. Across disks, yapyap copies everything, verifies every file, and only then deletes the source.

caution

An interrupted move — power loss, a yanked drive — leaves your library in the old location, untouched. Nothing is half-moved. Run the move again when the drive is back.
